Thorns Become Roses is Nishane's meditation on contrast - the tension between delicacy and defiance captured in a single rose. Part of the house's Rumi Collection, inspired by the poetry of the thirteenth-century mystic Mevlana, the fragrance opens with a vivid, sweet-tart burst of lychee and raspberry brightened by the warm, slightly leathery glow of saffron and a whisper of cardamom spice. As the top notes settle, an opulent Turkish rose blooms at the heart, softened by powdery mimosa and a green, faintly bitter facet of violet leaf and blackcurrant that keeps the floral from ever turning saccharine - the thorn beneath the petal. The drydown unfolds slowly into a rich, mineral base of patchouli, amberwood and rare aetoxylon (a prized wood historically used in oud production), rounded out by sandalwood for a smooth, enduring finish. Presented in Nishane's sculptural, jewel-toned Rumi flacon, this extrait de parfum is engineered for longevity and depth over fleeting freshness. Genderless by design, it's the choice for anyone drawn to rose fragrances that lean sensual, spiced and woody rather than sweet or powdery.

Nishane is Istanbul's first niche perfume house, founded in 2012 by Mert Guzel and Murat Katran, two friends united by the belief that fragrance could function as high art rather than mere product. Rooted on the Bosphorus, the strait where East meets West, the brand draws its identity from Istanbul's layered history, blending Ottoman-era craftsmanship with a distinctly cosmopolitan, contemporary sensibility. Rather than working within a single theme, Nishane builds its collections as narrative arcs: the Rumi Collection channels the philosophy of poet Mevlana, while other lines draw on Turkish theatre, literature and cultural memory. This storytelling approach, paired with rich, maximalist compositions and rare raw materials, has earned Nishane a devoted global following within the independent perfumery community. Its name, meaning "mark" or "symbol" in Turkish, reflects the brand's ambition: each fragrance is meant to become a personal signature. With standout releases like Hacivat, Ani and Hundred Silent Ways, Nishane has become one of the most influential independent perfume houses of the past decade.
